For almost as long as i've endured RK and GASH, i've kept an old TX driver's license, periodically being asked to renew through the mail (thank God). Well, this year, i received notice to show up in person and re-test (no more renewing through the mail). After a work-related meeting this morning, i went to a local DPS office with the intention of just getting a chance to look through the eye-test machine. Instead, i went ahead and handed over my renewal notice and began signing the renewal paperwork. My blood turned to ice when the young lady behind the desk said, 'okay, we need to test your eyes now.' I looked to the right and into a machine called the 'Optex 2000 DMV' or some such thing and pressed my forehead against the eyepiece band.

The inside lit up and i could see some characters and some green and red bands. The lady asked, 'go ahead and read line 5 for me' and i looked up and down to find where line 5 was. I couldn't see it! My right eye seemed to make out the 3 columns of black characters 'sharper' than my left, which seemed very nearsighted, but i finally noticed the line numbering on the left side of the chart. There were 3 total columns of what looked like 5 black numbers each column.

In my nervousness, and distraction from the 'blur' of my left eye, i missed a few numbers in the left-most column and said, 'wait, wrong line' and went back and read them again. I got 100% right! Now, we all know that i didn't see the numbers 'crisply and clearly' like a non-surgical eye would, but my right eye carried me most of the way, and my brain helped unscramble the double-visioney mess i was seeing out of my left, and the rest just started falling into place. I post this here today because i have been dreading this date for about 8 years! Now, i am just glad i was able to pass. Anyhow, will be making my annual contribution to The Surgical Eyes Foundation (Ron Link's organization) early. I hope others who frequent this board do so too.

Muddy congratulations to you!!!!! I know how you feel.

I had surgery Jan 21st and had to renew my license IN PERSON Feb 22nd. Well, I had gone from coke bottle glasses to none. At 4 weeks, I was in pretty bad shape still. Although, come to think of it my dry eyes had not started yet.

Well, my doc gave me a temporary pair of single vision glasses for driving and getting my license. I went to the DMV one day on my lunch hour and it was pouring rain.

I got there and noticed I did not have my glasses. Well, I thought what the heck.here goes. I decided to try it without.

I could not see crap and I was sure she'd turn me back. My eyes were still very much in early healing stages.

Well, I stepped up to the eyechart thing--first time ever without peering through -9.5's.I read what she asked me. I know I did not do well at all, but she said ok. Step up and have your picture taken. My picture looks absolutely terrible.

My eyes look like monster eyes or something (LOL). So, I now have a driver's license with my picture sans glasses.

Computer Networking Tutorials In Hindi Pdf. Funny thing is, I have glasses now and wear them all the time. I was still happy that I could pass that darn thing even if I did forget my glasses. So, I can share in your joy.

Again, congratulations. I hope you continue to progress. I really should go and have my picture retaken so I am not afraid to pull out my license.

Now, people look twice because in the picture I am not wearing glasses and actually am wearing them every day.  Registered: Thu February 10 2000 Ignored post by posted Sat October 07 2000 01:50 AM. Muddy, congrats on passing the test. I'm very familiar with the anxiety you experienced, having moved to different states 3 times in the last 6 years. But, like you, I passed each time w/o any lenses through the smear of what I was seeing- just like at the doctor's office!

What a dilemma eh? Having to simultaneously live in world where we don't want to lose our independence while at the same time trying to convince the world and its ophthalmologists that we have some serious trouble going on here.
